"Just sign up? Coach, what the hell are you talking about?"
Things like losing weight, moving more and adopting a healthier lifestyle are not always easy to do. It won't happen, in a healthy way, overnight. In addition studies have shown that most New Year's resolutions fall by the wayside before January is over.
So now that spring is almost in the air, and before this month ends and you give up, I am going to share with you my favorite tip to keep your fitness in check. By signing up for a local 5k, Bootcamp, bike tour, crossfit challenge, or triathlon, you are now mentally committed to the training. Signing up for a race clearly helps you set not only a goal, but a specific date for which the goal will be achieved.
Have higher goals, no problem, find a marathon, century ride or Ironman to compete in. Once you sign up, pay your fee and book your hotel, your whole attitude will change. I have learned this through experience. Once you tell people that you are competing, you become more dedicated and focused on diet, nutrition, and exercise. Now is the time to enroll. Popular races and events sell out quickly, so do not procrastinate.
Up the ante, get a friend to sign up with you. Now you have an instant support system in place. Together, you can keep each other on track and improve your health and fitness.
High School athletes, there is no excuse! Off-season wrestling has just begun, football strength programs are begging you to sign up. Speed and agility camps are everywhere. So "just sign up", and make a difference in your athletic performance.
